Current State Of The Global Climate
The current annual global average temperature is about 1.45-1.55°C above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900), according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and other reports for the year 2024. This makes 2024 the warmest year on record, a trend driven by long-term climate change, which is further influenced by natural factors like the El Niño event that has now passed.
2024 was the warmest year. October 2025 has broken all records. 2024's record warmth was caused by a combination of long-term warming from greenhouse gases and the influence of a strong El Niño event.
While the El Niño is waning and La Niña conditions may return, leading to cooler conditions in the tropical Pacific, the overall trend of warming from greenhouse gases is expected to continue.
