The Freeze Respons Is Designed To Shut Down Conversation
#SolidarityPrepping #soliprepping #preppingtogether is an international alternative mutual aid network which are primarily anti fascist. We promote community cooperation and counter the dominance of the far right wing politics, climate denial and hope-porn (hopium) in preparedness.
We are also a group which are tacking the reality of climate change and climate change survival through cooperation and mutual aid.
Many of us ls feel the need to counter some of the Hope Porn being pushed by green influencers because it isn't helpful and lulls people into inaction becasue they cannot grasp the urgency. A lot of these notions are also exclusively white, middle class and were never meant for the hoipoloi. There's is no intentional outreach h into ethnic minorities from these movements. They offer no solution to the global south.
Thrutopia: something which most people in the global south will not experience as their crops fail, droughts worsen, severe storms cause small countries' economies to go into terminal decline because storms have destroyed infrastructure and deaths from severe heat and wet bulb global temperatures. Thrutopia pushers claim its a new writing genre, which is a lazy way of saying we want to survive but we don't want to entertain any of the actual work which unites communities and helps them through what is coming.
Some Thrutopians use phrases like "leaving a world we would be proud to leave the generations to come" This is a lie on a par with "Arbeit Macht Frei" The era we are in now is a mass extinction event. But it is being framed as a transformative spiritual event.
The messaging is very clear: Self-styled shamans are telling us that the future doesn't require any skills apart from ceremonies and healing, and these are the Healers who will treat climate grief by going on Soul Retrieval Expeditions into your sanity.
Is your home underwater? Think of this as transformative rather than climate chaos. You will feel more positive about losing everything, because you won't get insurance. Dont forget to breathe.
Transformative Adaptation: more sound-bite based ideas which need explanation from those who coin them. But they are not talking to the working classes. Transformative Adaptation is a blend of Buddhist theory and environmental hopium. Its easy thinking to imagine how amazingly transformative collapse will be if you just don't acknowledge most of it. Every single Glacier Trust Report from the Climate Majority Project fails to identify wet bulb temperatures as a major risk to life. If you ignore severe killer heat & the decline of agriculture of course adaptation coukd be transformative.
The future we will leave our children is hell. But according to Thrutopians telling the truth is a problem because some people freeze when confronted with the possibility of their death in 10-20 years. Yet they are happy to drive around in cars (EVs) with a much higher death /severe injury probability.
You Can't Tell People The Truth, What If They Freeze
The freeze/fight/flight response is poorly understood. Apart from emotionally charged bad news like the death of a loved one. People don't generally freeze when they hear abstract information. Denial is usually the firsts response.
The "what if people freeze" argument is a conversation killer. Its like using "antisemitism" or "mansplanning" to shut down an argument. It's actually nonsense. I used to do a dangerous job. People freeze out of sheer terror if they are overwhelmed with visual stimulation, like violence or the result of violence with multiple casualties. Adrenaline management is a trained response to fight/flight/freeze. But we either gave them a job or reminded them of their training to get them out of it.
It's very easy for the landed eco-topians to preach from their Welsh smallholding, describing #solidarityprepping as dystooian survivalism. These same people are repeating the ideas of the far right about indigeneity, claiming "everyone is indigenous from somewhere"- a perfect reason to deport people who arent indigenous English. While the parallels with fascism might not be intentional they are undeniable.

These shamanic LARPers efforts to connect to nature are simplistic and cursory, based in pseudoscience of Serotonin produced in the gut, which we already know doesn't cross the Blood-brain barrier. But they will double down on it because admitting fault is not an option when your entire cult is built on it. You'd have to give people their money back.
Adaptation is going to be messy and billions of people are already on deaths doorstep. No Transformative Adaptation is available for those trapped by geography. There's no thrutopia for island nations already in collapse. These ideas are not for the global south, they are for the privileged deep adapters who can afford to globe trot out of harms way
