Collapse Adaptation: This Needs A National Emergency Approach.
This Blog specifically addresses preparing for the climate emergency and its impacts. It is aimed at individuals, homeowners and families. It examines our existential risk from the climate emergency and suggests that developing a deep nature connection is a way to help cope with climate anxiety.
To survive collapse, if that is even possible, we need community, we need each other & we need to get over our belief that we need to be exclusive. White supremacy is perpetuated by the super-rich oligarchs and Far-Right grifters, the ones who moan about being raided and arrested for harassing people or sharing ideas which induce riots based on disinformation. The Far-right are betraying the working classes into supporting people who are living lives of luxury, dodging UK taxes and squandering their donations on drugs, designer clothes & luxury holidays.

I have been a wilderness survival skills practitioner for over 30 years. I'm a veteran of the land rights & anti-roads protests in the 1990s. I lived off-grid for over 15 years with no mains electric connection, wood-fired heating and raised a family there too. I have been a coppicer, health worker, security operative and I had my own solar energy & building energy retrofit business for a few years in the early 2000s.
I have been making short videos on survival skills since about 2011. I am now making climate adaptation videos. I am honest, compassionate and want you to find a deep connection to nature & learn the skills to help you do that, as well as prepare your home and family for the climate emergency.
I have recently been reviewing output from other parts of the Green Movement about Adaptation, and while they are contributing to the conversation about adaptation, they concentrate on a strong business-as-usual (BAU) model in which to set the foundation for their models of future adaptation and sustainability.
My approach is more radical and more on a household level concentrating on affirdability. I have 2 YouTube channels, one concentrates on skills and knowledge of nature connection and the other on practical solutions for your home. There are some crossovers between the 2 channels. I also use TikTok as another way to get the message out.
When I talk about nature connection, I mean real nature connection through knowing nature as an intimate friend. This is a more complicated nature connection than sitting under a tree and asking what it wants from you, and to be honest, anyone who thinks nature connection is just to sit in woodland or under a tree is both lazy and delusional.

Deep Nature Connection, in my opinion can help with climate anxiety, especially if you are engaged in environmental repair, tree planting and conservation. Interestingly, digging is scientifically proven to relieve anxiety, and is used as a therapy for Generalised Anxiety as an alternative to medication and can maintain a patient's health for decades. Engagement with nature husbandry & learning skills, which bring us close to plants and wildlife, is deeply fulfilling.
There is now a well-established body of research that indicates contact with nature is good for our mental health. Unfortunately, quite a lot of grifters have seen this as a money spinner and will tell you 20 minutes on nature is beneficial, while the studies used 40-minute walks.
"Behavioural studies suggest that immersion in nature improves affect and executive attention. However, the neural mechanisms underlying these benefits remain unclear. This randomized controlled trial (N = 92) explored differences in self-reported affect and in frontal midline theta (FMθ), a neural oscillation linked to executive attention, between a 40-min, low-intensity nature walk and an urban walk of comparable time and distance-controlling for ambient temperature, humidity, elevation change, walking pace, heart rate, calories burned, and moving time between the two groups. While affect improved for both groups, the nature walkers showed a significantly greater boost in positive affect than the urban walkers. Electroencephalography (EEG) data revealed significantly greater FMθ activity following the urban walk compared to the nature walk, suggesting that the urban walk placed higher demands on executive attention."
